Condition Monitoring Scope

Predictive maintenance turns a looming gearbox or bearing failure into a planned, low-cost intervention instead of an uptower crane job. We match owners and asset managers to independent condition monitoring specialists who install, run and interpret the data.

Whether you want SCADA-based analytics with no new hardware or a full sensor-based CMS, tell us your platform and fleet size and we match the right provider.

Catch failures before they stop a turbine

The most expensive words in operations and maintenance are "unplanned failure". Condition monitoring exists to make sure you never hear them unprepared.

As the Australian fleet ages, drivetrain components move through mid-life, where failure rates climb. A gearbox bearing that spalls without warning can escalate into a gearbox replacement and a week of lost generation. Caught early through drivetrain vibration data, the same fault can be planned around a low-wind window and a far smaller repair.

Vibration analysis and CMS

A dedicated condition monitoring system fits accelerometers on the main bearing, gearbox stages and generator, streaming vibration spectra to analysts who recognise the signatures of bearing, gear and alignment faults. On platforms with high replacement cost, a CMS pays for itself with a single avoided failure.

SCADA monitoring and analytics

Not every fleet needs new sensors on day one. SCADA-based analytics mine the data the turbine already produces, temperatures, power curves, pitch and yaw behaviour, to flag drift and underperformance. It is a low-cost entry point that pairs naturally with an inspection programme and a service contract.

From data to decision

Monitoring only pays off when the findings drive action. The providers we match deliver interpreted reports with clear recommendations, not raw plots, so your asset team can schedule maintenance and component exchange with confidence.

Wind Turbine Services is a sourcing and comparison service and does not perform monitoring itself. Enquiries are passed to independent service partners who contact you directly. There is no cost or obligation to owners and asset managers.

Frequently asked questions

What is wind turbine condition monitoring?
Condition monitoring (CM) continuously watches the health of a turbine's drivetrain and structure using vibration sensors, oil debris sensors, SCADA data and sometimes blade and tower sensors. The aim is to catch a developing fault, a spalling bearing or a cracking gear tooth, weeks or months before it fails.
How is this different from scheduled maintenance?
Scheduled maintenance is calendar-based. Condition monitoring is state-based: it tells you to act when the data says a component is degrading, which converts an expensive unplanned failure into a planned, lower-cost intervention.
What does a condition monitoring system detect?
Gearbox and generator bearing wear, gear tooth damage, main bearing degradation, rotor imbalance and misalignment, and through SCADA trending, converter, pitch, yaw and temperature anomalies. Oil debris and particle counting add early drivetrain warning.
Do I need sensors fitted, or can you use SCADA?
Both approaches are matched through our network. Many fleets start with SCADA-based analytics (no new hardware) and add a dedicated condition monitoring system (CMS) with vibration sensors on higher-value or higher-risk turbines.
Who performs the monitoring and analysis?
Independent condition monitoring specialists, diagnostic analysts and O&M providers. Wind Turbine Services is a sourcing service: we route your enquiry to vetted providers who cover your platform and state, and they contact you directly.
